The First Pentecostal Church of Texas City was founded in 1943 by Sis. Lottie Hatcher. It was initially a missionary outreach program from Daisetta, Texas. The wood frame church was located at 11 8th Street North.
Seven pastors served the church during the seven years before the current ministers were accepted. They were Murray Burr, Samuel P. Austin, James N. Thomas, Ruth Myers, Steven Hatcher, and Naomi Ball.
The church suffered some damage during the Texas City Disaster in 1947, but remained open.
In 1950, Bro. Dewey and Sis. Geneva Maris accepted the pastorate.
In 1960 the old wood frame structure was sold then moved. Construction then began on a new brick building.
Hurricane Carla blew through in 1961 and again the church suffered very little damage and remained open. The church withstood Hurricane Alicia in 1983 as well as numerous tropical storms throughout the years.
In 1995 the church purchased 7.5 acres across town and work began on a new, larger building.
A metallic building was constructed to house the new church.
Then the congregation tackled the insideand the landscaping...
With the help of the entire congregation and anonymous donors the new church building opened on Memorial Day, 1996.
The church added a Sunday School Wing and Fellowship Hall in 1999.
In 2002 an illuminated cross was placed on the 29th Street side of the building.
In 2003 outdoor lighting was added the church signs to enhance their visibility. Also, the sound system has been completely replaced with state-of-the-art professional equipment.
This church is continually growing and expanding to meet the needs of its members. God is alive.
